DE NOVO HOPOVO MONASTERY

Turn left, two kilometers after the top of Iriški Venac, towards the north. Built in 1576, it is a very large monastery which quickly became a center of studies and copies of sacred texts. Damaged by the Turks and rebuilt in the 18th century, it represents the continuity of the Morava school and its character is due to a 12-sided dome and as many columns supporting the roof. It houses the relics of a Roman military leader, the megalomartyr Theodore Tiron, which are still the oldest preserved in Serbia.
