The construction project of the locks began on August 24, 1909 in Gatún and the Pedro Miguel locks were completed in 1911, two years before those of Miraflores. Smaller than its neighbor, it is located less than 5 kilometers to the north. It is possible to observe the boats passing the lock level, about 100 meters from the parking lot, but... through a fence. The only advantage is that it is free of charge, as there is no visitor center or explanations.
