Registered in 1980. Entirely located in Kivu, west of Bukavu, the park is characterized by a vast expanse of primary tropical forest dominated by two spectacular extinct volcanoes, Biega and Biega. It has abundant and varied wildlife. Between 2 100 and 2 400 m altitude is one of the last mountain gorilla populations, with only about 250 individuals. The park has been on the List of World Heritage at Risk since 1997 because of serious deforestation and poaching. Find out about the conditions and possibilities of access in Bukavu.
