The port of Nimborio (or Emporios), Halki's only inhabited village, is built amphitheatrically on translucent waters. Many of the beautiful neoclassical houses that make up this village are now abandoned, giving it the special atmosphere of a neglected town: in Halki, you have to take the time to do nothing! The imposing steeple of Saint-Nicolas church overlooking the bay is the highest in the Dodecanese. You can stroll around the harbour, where the waters are clear, but during the day you'll probably prefer to take a trip to the beach: there are three, easily accessible on foot or by bus from the village, not forgetting the islet of Alimnia, which can be reached by caïque. Halki has been chosen by the Greek government and Citroën to launch an innovative energy policy: the local police force has inherited a fleet of electric vehicles powered by photovoltaic panels.
