The characteristic of this village is to be located at the extreme point east of New Guinea, which justifies some of the 90 minutes drive from Alotau (10 kinas by bus). However, his interest lies in the fact that he represents the point of access to the island of Normanby, an isolated paradise in the world where life flows peacefully in intact nature. From Normanby, you can then join the islands of Entrecastaux for more adventures. Here you will find traditional villages, people who live in fishing and culture, paradisiaque beaches, beautiful seabed… everything in total isolation. This type of project is aimed only at travelers who are prepared to live hard, sleep and eat local and face the most basic means of transportation. The Tourist Bureau of Alotau can help them organize this kind of adventure, but it is also possible to pass through the Napatana Lodge (see «Alotau»), which knows everyone in the region, or contact Mombi, a local guide (++675 7212 4347 - [email protected]). Mombi, which wants to develop responsible tourism on its island of Normanby, has developed a network of guesthouses, each of which allows to discover a different facet of the island. Some free diving spots around East Cape are exceptional, such as Yamba Island. There were 429 species of corals, more than the total of the Grand Barrier de Corail. To get there, you will have to rent a boat in East Cape (50 kinhave the day plus fuel, or about 100 kinas). East Cape has two very basic guesthouses, Bernhard's and the Oima (from 30 to 40 kinas per person plus 10 kinas for delicious traditional meals). It is impossible to prevent them in advance, except by sending a message by bus the day before arrival.
