15 minutes by pirogue from Saint-Georges, the village of Tampack is populated by Saramacas. They arrived at the time of the gold rush, when they were exercising their pirogue skills on the river and its tributaries. The village of Tampack was founded on the lands of Auguste Hilaire, a rosewood farmer from Saint-Georges. After the end of the industrial activities, the population of the village decreased as the Saramacas returned to the Suriname side. Today, about forty people now live there in relative isolation, between river and forest. A quick passage through here during a longer expedition is to be envisaged.
