MBERESHI CHURCH

The Mbereshi mission near Lake Mweru was established by the London Missionary Society - like the Lubwe mission on Lake Bangweulu - as early as the 1900s. In 1905, the mission opened the first girls' school in the area, as well as a boys' school and hospital that are still in operation. Its large red brick church impresses and stands out in the local landscape. It has a large crenellated tower and Gothic-style openings that mimic a medieval building style not often seen in the region.
