At the western tip of Tortola, the pirate/wholesaler Jost Van Dyke, who has given his name to one of the British Virgin Islands, establishes a small village, Soper's Hole. He worked with the merchants of Puerto Rico. Black Beard, alias Edward Teach would also have had his neighborhoods. At the beginning of the th century, the village expanded, mainly from Dutch, French and English pirates. Today Soper's Hole is one of Tortola's access points thanks to its wonderful bay surrounded by hills overlooking the surrounding islands. Frenchman's Cay is the heart of this activity.
