This village is located opposite Segou on the other bank of Niger. To access it, you must take a canoe. The crossing is wonderful. If you can, go to Segou at sunset, when the light is the most beautiful. Prefer the motorboat, faster and more comfortable, but also more expensive (count 20 000 FCFA, 30 000 FCFA if you take a guide), to the perche canoe. It takes between 30 and 45 minutes of crossing. In the village you will have to pay a fee of 3 500 FCFA (price for the entire group). If you take a guide, count 27 500 FCFA (all inclusive) for the visit. Here you can contemplate the potières working the clay that they shape only with hands. We must go on Sunday afternoon, the day of cooking of the pottery. On that day, potières prepare large wooden fires. The pottery of Segou is undoubtedly the most beautiful in Mali. The advantage of the village of Kalabougou is that you can see the entire chain of manufacture of the famous ségoviennes pottery, but you will find more authenticity and spontaneity in less crowded potters villages such as Balabougou.
