The Bafing reserve, created in 1990, represents a classified area of 158 000 ha. This reservation is the most interesting of Mali for wild fauna lovers. The yards of the Manantali dam have opened up tracks that now allow to go to the reserve. We can look at Derby elk, antelopes, buffles, leopards, hippotragues, otters, hippos, big crocodiles, monkeys, and especially chimpanzees, reserve tops. The chimpanzee is indeed endangered and its distribution area includes only a few African countries. This reserve is his last refuge in Northern areas.Tourists travel to western Tanzania only to observe chimpanzees and tour operators specialized in this type of travel. The reservation of the reservation must therefore be prepared as an expedition. An all-terrain vehicle is required to access it (four days from Bamako). Then it is better to take a guide, a tracker and porters to walk in the forest and approach the fauna. Provide camping equipment and enough food. Some villages have never seen white men! In short, wait for strong sensations in one of the most remote regions of West Africa!
