With 1,788 rooms, including 257 bathrooms, the palace of the Sultan of Brunei is the world's largest royal residence, even more spacious than Buckingham! It is said to have cost the princely sum of 350 million dollars, a drop in the bucket of oil that is pouring into the sultan's accounts. The only time during the year when the palace opens its doors to the public is at the end of Ramadan, when, in accordance with the traditional open house principle, members of the royal family receive visitors in person and present them with a certificate for visiting the palace.
