Medano means "dune" in Spanish. This 514,233-hectare park, located in the northwestern part of the Chaco, has the particularity of having sand dunes, which move over a rolling terrain. It is also one of the only places in Paraguay where the guanaco (Lama guanicoe) has been sighted. The park is also the territory of jaguar, puma, taguá, wild boar, giant armadillo, anteater (giant anteater) and deer. Access is complicated and requires the authorization of the DAMES. Check with Teniente Enciso National Park wardens, or contact a local agency with good naturalist guides, such as Paraguay Birding, Paraguay Safari, or Gran Chaco Turismo.
