On the Ruta 5 between Concepción and Pedro Juan Caballero, at Yby Yaú, you can't miss this magnificent rock formation that stands 270 metres above sea level, in the middle of green plains. Memby means "mother's child" in Guarani. The name of the rock comes from its shape consisting of a large mound and a smaller one beside it. The Paî Tavyterã call it karumbé because the rock also looks like a turtle. It is tempting to climb to the top, but be aware that the mountain is protected by the "kavá la reina", swarms of aggressive bees, which rout most hikers. It is therefore recommended that you leave with a local guide and seek advice from the municipality of Yby Yaú (+595 39 210 363).
