CATEDRAL METROPOLITANA

The cathedral was inaugurated in 1845, during Carlos A's regime. López, was built under the direction of the Italian architect Alejandro Ravizza, on the site of the old church. It retains a colonial style, with neoclassical touches. The interior is colourful, especially its wooden ceiling. The baroque altar is covered with silver panels. Classical music concerts are sometimes held in front of the illuminated cathedral. Pope Francis celebrated Vespers on July 11, 2015 in front of a thousand members of the clergy.
