A major city with a population of 620,116, Warangal was the capital of the Kakatiya kingdom in the 12th and 13th centuries. It was conquered by the Tughluq of Delhi in the 14th century. The Kakatiya were great builders, and numerous temples bear witness to the architectural evolution of the Chalukya period. Warangal is famous for its wool and cotton market.Warangal has two bus stations, Hanamkonda and Warangal Bus Stand. Buses to Hyderabad leave frequently (4-hour journey, approx. 160 Rs). The railway station is in the city center. An auto-rickshaw from the pre-paid counter will take you to the fort for around Rs. 90.
