Travel Guide Forteresse De Ras

8 km from Novi Pazar, on the road to Sopoćani, the ruins of the fortress of Ras dominate the road. One of the most important steps in defending Serbian lands during the Low Middle Ages, Ras gave its name to one of the largest Serb states of the time, Rasa or Raška. Under the Latin word Rascia, it is found in many texts in Europe. After the expansion of the Serbian state, particularly in Kosovo, the fortress becomes one of the houses of Nemanjić, which has no capital allocated. Destroyed by the Mongols in 1242, it remains a major shopping centre until the city of Novi Pazar. Today you can see the ramparts, irregular shape and foundations of 5 towers as well as many other foundations. But because of the lack of funding, the site is still not highlighted.
