Here, 55 km from Kruševac by Trstenik, is one of the most beautiful and best preserved churches in the Morava style. Kalenić is also adorned with great style paintings in the Byzantine tradition. The monastery was built in 1415 by Bogdan, one of the courtiers of the despot Stefan Lazarević. The church is decorated with delicate carvings spread over the window frames, doors and arches. Alternating brick and stone courses, a Byzantine tradition, also contribute to the ornamentation of this sanctuary. Note the portraits of warrior saints in the lower registers of the south and north apses.
