Between the Ovčar Mountains (985 m) and Kablar (889 m), the River Morava formed one of the most beautiful gorges in Serbia. At 8 km west of Čačak, on the national direction towards Užice, it runs into very tight loops, forming méandres that gently sinuent between valleys and hills. There are many tourist attractions here, as along this gorge, there are the Thermale spa station, two artificial lakes and no less than 12 small monasteries, all perched on the hills and hills overlooking the river. It is a pleasure to walk on 8 marked trails among streams and water sources, under the canopy and in high-altitude clearings. Sports activities are carried out on Lake Medjuvršije, such as canoeing, fishing and swimming, in clear water. The numerous monasteries, of veritable little jewels attached to the mountains, are small, but always surrounded by a landscaped garden. They graze on both banks of Morava, often offering a broad and high perspective. Built between the th and th centuries, these monasteries form what is known as the Republika Sveta Gora. The most important is the Saint-Nicolas monastery, for its manuscripts studio and the palace of Prince Obrenović. The monastery of Vavedenje (or Purification), founded by Stefan Nemanja, preserves some precious manuscripts, such as the Gospel of Belgrade dating back to 1552. Finally, Blagoveštenje is interesting for its construction materials - blending stone, thatch and wood - and for its frescoes of the th century. The Čačak tourist office organises guided tours of monasteries.
