Bordered by rice fields, willows, streams and traditional habitats, the Paro Valley is one of the most beautiful in Bhutan and one of the first to discover Buddhism. The oldest Bhutanese temple is here: the Kyichu Lakhang. The construction of Paro is quite recent and dates back to 1985. The city has been undergoing an impressive expansion for several years. It is from here that you will probably leave to join the famous Tiger's Nest (the hermitage of Taktsang) which plays perched cat and is one of the most magical visits in Bhutan. More than 17 km from the town, the Drukyel dzong symbolizes resistance to the Tibetan invader and closes the valley.
