The Manakamana Mandir temple is located on a hill, about 2.5 hours from Kathmandu and 2 hours' drive from Pokhara, and about 100 km from both. It is one of the country's major Hindu temples. It is very popular with pilgrims and has been accessible by high-speed cable car since 1998, the first of its kind built in Nepal. Up there, the spirituality is intense and the view is incredible, over the Annapurna II, Lamjung Himal and Manaslu mountains. A 3 km walk past the Manakamana Mandir temple to the sacred cave of Lakhan Thapa Gufa offers a remarkable view of the Himalayas. The path that follows the ledge to the west leads to Gorka, the capital of the Sha dynasty, in a 4-hour walk.
