Benjamin Odio is an excellent tico guide, based in San Pedro near San Jose; he is also a French teacher at the Alliance française in his spare time. You can contact him for hikes lasting several days, for example to the Savegre river (4 days) or to cross the Talamanca mountain range (10 days). In the middle of the jungle, he also organizes scientific and study trips, or multi-day walks for individuals in search of pumas and other jaguars. He knows the indigenous communities inside out (he has learned a lot from them) and will take you off the beaten track for a week to the mountains of Buenos Aires. In particular, it organizes the transtalamanca, one of the most emblematic treks in the country, marked by a complete immersion in the primary forest, with abrupt changes in altitude and vegetation. It is a hard and exciting trek where you will have to work your way through the machete where even a horse could not access it!
