Petit Futé's opinion on BAMBOO TRAIN

Originally, the railway was in such poor condition that for years the inhabitants converted and invested it. Every day, large bamboo plateaus (2.5 m x 4 m) equipped with a small engine made round trips over a distance of about 6 km, carrying passengers, goods and tourists! But with the Bangkok-Saigon railway line project, the line was rehabilitated (it seems...) As this was one of Battambang's flagship activities, the city authorities opened a new draisine line. Obviously less authentic than at the time, the experience remains quite pleasant. Go there preferably at sunset (4:30pm/17pm). At the end, we can visit a brick factory and drink a soda and... we go back the other way. On the way, it is possible to observe the daily life of the villages, for which the opening of this secondary line has meant a real opening up.
