ARTISANAL DISTRICT
Koko is a district famous for its handicraft workshops: forges, dyeing, bronziers, sculptures. Some of the woodcarvers and dyers come from families of Guinean origin who have lived in Bobo-Dioulasso for several generations. As for bronzers, it is not surprising to note that most of them call themselves Traoré: these dioula blacksmiths transmit the know-how of the metal from father to son, using the traditional lost wax technique. These constantly active workshops mostly have a small gallery in which the pieces intended for sale are exhibited. Bobo is the ideal place to buy a bronze, directly from the artist (you can also place an order). Among the Bobo, the griot is traditionally the holder of the group's memory and is in charge of making musical instruments. In the griot district, there are also many workshops for instrument makers: djembe, drums, balafons, flutes, including flutes with zoomorphic shapes. A district where it is pleasant to stroll around, and to discover (or rediscover) know-how.
Mais bien d'autres, pour des raisons de coûts de location, commencent à travailler hors de ce quartier.
