Travel Guide Tougan

Tougan is the capital of Samo country, geographically and culturally close to Marka country, located around Nouna. This region is not very developed for tourism, which some travellers will appreciate. Tougan offers a good base to visit the region before continuing its journey to Ouahigouya, Dédougou or Mali. The Samo are the "joking parents" of the Mossi. Their encounters, like those between the Bobo and the Fulani, who are also jokingly related, are often marked by surprising verbal jousts, each claiming that the other is his slave!In June 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) formally advised against travelling to Tougan and its surroundings (to the Malian border).
