OUAGADOUGOU MUSIC MUSEUM
The Ouagadougou Music museum, which was created in 1999, is worth a detour, even though it was favoured by Bobo. His visit allows to discover a rich collection: approximately 180 instruments in normal time (out of work), originating in 35 ethnic groups in the country. The instruments are grouped according to universal organologique classification: membranophones (like drums), aerophones (like flutes), idiophones (like xylophone) and chordophones (like kora). A musical animation in a small enclosed amphitheatre is proposed by a traditional troupe, which provides between the pieces interesting explanations about the meanings and circumstances of the traditional musical themes. The future building, in the Algarve-Sahelian style, promises to be magnificent and the museum, much more contemporary, with listening terminals, media centre, registration studio, renovated auditorium and well-soundproofed… as well as a bistro with terrace. Unfortunately, we have been waiting for it for several years now…
