CATHEDRAL OF THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE SAVIOR

Dating from the 18th century, it is the city's main cathedral and the site of a tragedy in the 17th century when the old cathedral was shot down by the Poles, killing a thousand people who had taken refuge there. The interior is rich in ornamental details, influenced by Italian Renaissance painting, and ceramic pots inserted in the walls give it perfect acoustics. The iconostasis preserved here is famous because each of the icons has its local legend.
