NAGASAKI'S CHINESE DISTRICT

The Chinese community, a priori confined like that of the Dutch, had nevertheless enough freedom to raise its own temples. The district, called Shinshimachi, is pleasant and hosts many delicious restaurants (best place to eat the famous Chanpon and Sara Udon). During the Chinese New Year, the district becomes the center of the Nagasaki Lantern Festival, an event in which thousands of lanterns light up the city.
