Travel Guide Shikotsu-Toya National Park

It is the closest national park to Sapporo. It is also the first national park you will reach if you come to Hokkaidō by train from Hakodate. Located in the north of Muroran, it has an area of 985 km². Therefore, it is preferred by visitors who stay in Hokkaidō for a short time. Not far from the park is Tōya-Ko Onsen, a small municipality that offers several accommodation and hotel options with Western or Japanese style rooms. Ideal for going on a day trip. Every summer, the municipality holds fireworks every night, a spectacle to be watched from the shores of Lake Tōya-Ko. It is possible to take a 30-minute cruise on the lake. You can also rent a bicycle at one of the youth hostels (about ¥1500 per day).
