Although officially part of the Guanica reserve, the island is open to the public. Also called Cayo Aurora, it is relatively small, covering an area of 0.18 km². It owes its name to an American television series from the 1960s. The small Gilligan Island is located one and a half kilometers off the coast of Guanica, on the southwest coast of Puerto Rico. It is part of the Guanica Biosphere Reserve and is managed by the Department of Natural Resources (DRNA). Cayo Aurora is one of the three cays that make up Cayos de Caña Gorda. Cayo Aurora is on the west side, Isla Ballena on the east side, separated from the mainland by a channel, and Cayo Honda is located between the two. Frequented by the locals during the weekend, you should be quiet during the week. Its shallow crystal waters, surrounded by mangroves, are the perfect setting for a little snorkeling, with small dream beaches, such as Playa Solitaria. For years, a vacation club project threatened the tranquility and authenticity of this paradise, but the popular local rebellion won out. On Cayo Aurora, picnic tables are at your disposal and even barbecues. Pack your cooler before your departure and make sure to pick up your garbage. You will take the boat at the parking lot of the San Jacinto restaurant, in the area of Playa Gorda, after having left the road 333
