IGLESIA DE SAN PEDRO

This site was chosen from the foundation of the city to build a small church that was later destroyed during the Guerra Grande. In 1887, a commission met to rebuild a more majestic church, but in 1967 a fire destroyed the interior. The restoration work was entrusted to the architect Eladio Dieste, who conceived a distinctly brutalist design that had nothing to do with the building's original façade. Inside, a stained glass window composed of hexagons set into each other gives a very special light.
