Also known as the Cementerio Viejo (Old Cemetery), this monument was erected between 1835 and 1853 and contains the remains of the great figures who fell during the siege of the city. It was designated a National Historic Monument in 2004. Its neoclassical chapel, with neo-Gothic elements, was built in 1959 by the master builder Francisco Poncini. Of particular note are the graves of the Stirling family and General Francia. Guided tours available.
