CATEDRAL NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LAS MERCEDES

Seat of the Diocese of Mercedes (Soriano and Colonia) since 1960, the cathedral was built at the request of Juan XXIII, and has a neoclassical style designed by the Swiss architect Antonio Petrochi. Its towers display bas-reliefs of the baptism of Christ and the Last Supper. Its central dome is decorated withazulejos from Pas-de-Calais. Inside, the main altar is decorated with representations of Nuestra Señora de la Merced and San Pedro Nolasco, founder of the Order of Mercy.
