This mountain, the highest in Namibia, stands in the middle of arid plains with a peak of 2,573 m. Brandberg means "burnt mountain", because of the fiery colors of its slopes at sunset. Of volcanic origin, Brandberg is estimated to be over 140 million years old. It is a granitic mass, like the surrounding mountains, including the Spitzkoppe (1,760 m) and the Erongo Mountains (2,300 m). The Brandberg massif lends itself perfectly to hiking, which will allow you to discover impressive galleries of rock paintings (there are not only the White Lady, but several hundred paintings scattered throughout the site), to observe the original geology of the mountain, and finally to enjoy an incomparable view of the desert and the neighboring mountain ranges. For an ascent of the massif, ask at the various lodges in the area which will indicate the guides and the prices. Four-wheel drive trails lead to the Numas Ravine and the Messum Crater, both of which are picturesque and beautiful sites. It is preferable to be accompanied by a guide and to get precise information on the state of the tracks.
