This agglomeration on the Tahoua-Agadez route is the last before Agadez, which is 270 km away from an impressive man's land. It is in the heart of a rolling dune area that covers a green carpet with a loss of sight in August and September, making the many nomads living in the region happy. Then grass will turn off and with the constant grazing of herds, it becomes thinner to bare the sandy soil again until the first rains at the end of July. On the edge of the roads, Tuareg women offer dry, very flat cow cheeses. In the bush around Abalak, each year the Gerewool des Fulani Bororo takes place.Towards Tahoua. 135 km south of Abalak lies the branch line for the Tchintabaraden sub-prefecture, the capital of Azawagh. Tchintabaraden, a small sub-prefecture of a region only pastoral, was sadly famous because of the massacres of Tuareg populations by the army in May 1990, beginning the Tuareg rebellion. Tabalak, a village halfway between Abalak and Tahoua, borders a very large and beautiful mare whose level rises in rainy season until sometimes the road of Agadez runs through. You must then wait for the drop or risk going into the water. There are sometimes migratory birds (pelicans, geese, storks). The water is jonzac and the fishing that is commonly practiced (captains, silures and carp) is grilled fish in the village.
