CONSULMAR BISSAU

Boat and ferry

A subsidiary of the Spanish shipping company, Consulmar Bissau has been running regular ferry and speedboat services between the capital and the Bijagos Islands since 2017. By ferry, you can reach Bubaque in 3 to 4 hours, and Enxudé in an hour or more. Please note that timetables vary according to the tides. Tickets can be purchased directly on the boat, but in high season it's best to book at the main office. The company also organizes transfers to tourist camps by speedboat for larger budgets.

PORT DE PIDJIGUITI

Port

Below the Amura fortress lies the port of Pidjiguiti. In places, it looks more like a boat graveyard than a real trading post. This is the departure point for the Bijagos, either by ferry or private shuttle. It was also the scene of the massacre on August 3, 1959 by Portuguese forces of 50 dockworkers demonstrating for a pay rise. Forever etched in people's memories, August 3 has been a national holiday ever since.
