Karkonosze, known as the Giant Mountains, is the highest mountain in the Sudetenland. Its most beautiful parts are protected by the boundaries of the national park, which is recognized by UNESCO as a world biosphere reserve. This national park also extends beyond the Czech border, where it is also protected. In the upper parts of the Karkonosze, there are thousands of fantastically shaped rocks, glacial cirques, high altitude lakes, rich flora and fauna. Its mountains allow for skiing, high mountain climbing and hiking. The two mountain resorts in the park are Szklarska Poręba and Karpacz.
