On the Bay of Bengal, Chaungtha Beach, easily accessible by road from Yangon, is perhaps the most local. This seaside recreation, recent among the Burmese, attracts the middle class of Yangon. However, it is out of the question to walk on the beach in a bikini, the Burmese keep the longyi and the t-shirt, even in the water. Nevertheless, we will not make you think about it. Most Burmese can't swim, so they rent tires as buoys, very useful to paddle without risk! In the small town of Chaungtha, the less than 2,000 inhabitants live on coconuts, fish products and lobster farming. The oldest part of the village, by the sea, seems to live on tourism and has a succession of restaurants and guesthouses. Close to Chaungtha, on the islands of Theinbyu and Hpokkala, we take advantage of a trip to visit these fishing villages.
