An original, feminist approach. Opened in 2000, the Women's Museum's mission is to make visible and document women's cultural creation and women's history. The museum is located in the center of town, in a district undergoing major redevelopment, in a building of contemporary architecture, a large rectangle with an entirely glazed side and a very large, high-ceilinged exhibition room. It organizes two or three exhibitions a year, as well as numerous workshops, seminars, conferences, concerts and educational activities for adults and children. Some twenty local women, aged 17 to 77, are involved in programming and leading guided tours. 2023 saw the inauguration of a major exhibition on cleaning, the history of cleaning, who cleans, why, how, what is dirt, how industrial cleaners seriously pollute the environment when a simple lemon is a magical detergent... A multimodal exhibition with photos, montages, videos and sounds. And what about art? The English translations make it easier to understand the messages. But for the most part, they are direct and didactic enough to be easily understood despite the language barrier. This exhibition is on view until October 2024. A small adjacent room presents another thematic exhibition. In addition to feminism, inclusion is another strong commitment of this structure.
