First, we see the church of St. George in the village of Malaïa (small) Chougore, while on the other side of a small river, the village of Bolchaïa (large) Chougore extends. The Finno-Ugric name of the site attests to the very ancient origins of its population, a theory supported by burial mounds, found not far from Malaïa Chougore. In the village centre, St. George's Church, built in stone in 1832, bears witness to surprising Baroque influences in the architecture of this Russian province. In the only street in the village, the windows of the houses (built after the fire of 1926), skilfully carved, and the greniers à, typical of Chougore, say all the wealth of local crafts. Near one of these houses, you will notice a large cedar: His owner likes to tell that his ancestor would have received cedar seeds from a nearby village years ago.
