The first church of five domes that we encounter on the road between Rostov and Borissoglebski is that of Demiany, built in 1804 on a height near the river Ichna. According to a legend of the country, the village took the name of a hero of the Russian epic who lived there in the th century, Demian Koudeneïtch.
