BASILICA SAN BENEDETTO

Damage following the 2016 earthquakes, the Basilica of San Benedetto has become the symbol of the earthquake. In August 2016, the basilica had been little affected, but the new earthquake of October 30, 2016 will have taken its toll... This tremor of a magnitude of 6.6 hit Norcia and its basilica which collapsed around 7:40 am... Its construction dates back to the beginning of the 13th century, on the ruins of the house of Saint Benedict, founder of the Benedictine order and born around 480 in Norcia. It is now under construction.
