PALIO DELLA BALESTRA

The origin of the Ballistari in Gubbio, and indeed in all the municipalities and republics of the Middle Ages, was the need to train men ready to serve the fatherland. This is how the "Compagnies del Popolo" or "Società d'Armi" were formed. Today the Palio is a festival, every year the whole village decorates its streets and stores. A battle is organized between the archers of Gubbio and those of Sansepolcro, in period costumes. This Palio is composed of 2 battles: the first one takes place in Gubbio, the second in Sansepolcro in September.
