Travel Guide Canyon De La Riviere Radika

The canyon of the river Radika begins immediately after the locality of Mavrovi Anovi, when heading towards Debar. On more than 40 km, the road passes through a narrow valley which sometimes takes the look of a parade carved in the rock and on which the Radika River flows. Its clear waters and always very cold form in places a real torrent. This water is known here to be the cleanest in Macedonia, and the presence of many trout fishermen seems to confirm its reputation. Naturalists also appreciate the place for its forest environment made of beech, oak and pine trees, but also for its fauna where rare and endemic species such as lynx, Šar Planina snake or brown bear are found. Weather characteristics of the site: the upstream and the middle of the canyon have a harsh climate of the Balkan mountains, but the lower part is placed more clearly under the influence of the Mediterranean climate.
