Test garden for tropical species, home to sacred trees, rarer species and free-roaming black monkeys

It was created on the site of a sacred forest. In 1895, the French governor made it a test garden for tropical species. After being abandoned, it was saved thanks to the efforts of the School of African Heritage. There you can find the iroko, the caïlcédrat and the kapok tree, gigantic trees, often considered sacred, as well as rarer species such as the jacaratia, but it is preferable to be accompanied by a guide to discover them. Black monkeys with white bellies roam freely.

Mis à part l’iroko Sacré, cette visite n’a pas grand intérêt. Elle permet cependant de faire une pause fraîcheur à Porto novo.

Visite du parc et du jardin sympa mais : le guide n'est pas toujours sur place, et surtout il y a vraiment beaucoup de moustiques donc pensez à vous protéger !

Sympathique endroit à Porto-Novo mais dommage pour nous que le guide n'était pas présent aux alentours de midi. Nous avons dû faire la visite libre et pour des personnes ne connaissant rien à la flore, difficile de s'y repérer entre les différents arbres.

The trees are magic and the pond is full of silurus fishes,... Ah you can try the natural lipstick!
