Located east of Oraviţa, in the loops of the Nera, the National gorges park of the Nera-Beuşniţa, created in 1943, covers a surface of 36 758 hectares. Due to its isolation, this karst zone is very rich in various species. The karst plateau, with a maximum height of 1 000 metres, is pierced by valleys and gorges harvested. Here, the Mediterranean, Subméditerranéenne and Balkan flores meet. Notable animal species include rare swallows varieties, an endemic snail and the scorpion carpatique. The gorges of the Nera are the longest (more than 19 kilometres) and probably the most beautiful of Romania (with those of Bicaz, Moldova). They form a wild, picturesque, isolated and calm natural site. To be directly in the heart of the park, visit the Sasca Română station. The forests are superb.Dracula Lake deserves a walk. Around the refuge of Păstrăvărie De Beiului, you will see numerous waterfalls (famous waterfalls of Beuşniţa) and the beautiful source of Ochiul Beiului («Eye of the Beiu») with a crater shaped in shape.
