The city centre is organised around the vast Victoriei Square. From here, Republicii (north) and Independenței (south) boulevards form the backbone of the city. Behind the Palace of Culture, you will notice the dome and clock tower of the great central hall, a vast 1935 building that houses the main market. The outdoor market is adjacent to it. Not far away, piața Eroilor, stands the Sfântul Ioan Cathedral Botezătorul, built between 1923 and 1930. All red, it impresses with its 60 m bell tower.
