Mount Gunung Agung, Bali's highest mountain, is an imposing volcano that reigns over the island with an official height of 3,142 meters, although some reports reduce it to 3,014 meters following the 1965 eruption. Its majestic silhouette, often tinted violet-grey, is visible on a clear day. Traditionally, climbing this volcano was a major attraction for tourists and adventurers.In autumn 2017, the volcano awoke, causing major upheaval. More than 136,000 residents were evacuated from the surrounding area when Gunung Agung erupted.
