TEMPLE OF FIRE (ATESHKADEH)
Close to the city center is this small temple Zoroastrian where the sacred fire burns permanently. Lit in Shiraz more than 1,500 years ago, transferred to Yazd around 1940, his flame never stopped. Maintained with noble wood wood, the precious combustion is powered by a mage (zoroastrien priest), responsible for the places for almost thirty-five years. Visitors as faithful can observe the fire behind a glass, so as not to sully the natural element through breathing. You discover on the walls a few thoughts of Zarathoustra, advocating goodness and the quest for truth. The temple houses a small museum exhibiting various zoroastrian publications and portraits of patrons. On the outside, overlooking the entrance and dominating the building, the symbol of zoroastrism, Farvahar (the bird man), blue and yellow faïences, accurately reproduce the ancient Achemide motif of Ahura Mazda.
