About kilometres northwest of Machhad. Founded at the time of Alexander the Great, the ancient town of Fetus will be devastated by the Mongols. Nouveau in 1389 by the armies of Timur, Foetuses will finally be abandoned during the th century. Elements of the citadel walls and a th century bridge are the only remains of this ancient and glorious city. The current village, famous throughout the country, houses the mausoleum of the Persian poet Ferdowsi, author of the Shâh Nâmeh (the Book of Kings) and native of Foetuses, like the Vizier Nizim al-Molk.
