ROYAL BURIALS
A small trail allows to reach the tombs - magnificent example of funerary architecture - dug at mid-height in the eastern cliff overhanging Persepolis. Two of the last achéménides kings are buried there: on the left, Artaxerxes II (405-361 BC), right at a distance, Artaxerxes III (361-338 BC).
Built on the same model, tombs with a cross in cross, the bas-relief dominating the opening of the funeral niche mimics the door of the palaces of Persepolis, flanked by the columns of the porticos. Overcoming the entablature, note the throne of the emperor supported by the 28 nations of the Persian Empire, the standing king, the bow by hand, parked in front of an altar of fire fire. The symbol of Ahura Mazda, a winged ring, the moon and the sun dominate the whole. Inside the cave opens the funeral niches.
La visite après midi permet d'assister au coucher du soleil sur le site. ...une merveille.
